Canada's Wind Energy Production Triples

A Quebec company has brought 57 MW of wind energy online at its Cap-Chat wind farm, effectively tripling Canada’s wind energy production.

AXOR Group, Inc. (AGI) says that before construction of its project began Canada had an installed capacity of 21 MW.
Once complete, Cap-Chat will host 133 NEG Micon 750-kW wind turbines, vastly surpassing any previous development in the country.

"This is an important step for everyone who cares about the development of wind energy in Quebec and Canada because it shows that large-scale renewable energy projects are feasible here," says Louis Gagnon, AGI vice-president, industrial.

According to AGI, power from the facility, Le Nordais, is sold to Hydro-Québec, which distributes it to customers over its transmission and distribution network. The minimum term of the agreement between Le Nordais and the government-owned utility is 25 years. When completed, the wind farm will generate enough power to meet the needs of around 10,000 homes.

Founded in 1972, AGI performs design, financing, construction and operation of infrastructures in the following fields: energy, industry, public services and environment. AGI’s head office is in Montreal with offices in Toronto, Vancouver, Sept-Îles and Ottawa.
